I'm afraid I've got the itch. I can't help myself. Every musical instrument has been created for me to conquor. This is one that I have not yet learned, and one that is now calling my name. Their is nothing quite as haunting and melancholy as the sound of a well-played Dobro. Nothing conjurs feelings of sweet sad release like the somber blues of the slide guitar. Somehow when the song is done you just feel better, like you've just had a good cry and now you can compose yourself and face life again. The expression of the blues from deep down in your soul has a mysterious way of making everything seem OK.

Now if I can just figure out what I can sell or pawn to come up with the cash to acquire this little gem.

One ever present constant about living in the south is that when the folks come together you must be prepared for anything. Whether it be a pig-picken, chicken pluckin', bean stringing, church sangin', or guitar slingin' kind of event it's vital that e'erybody understands what's expected of um.

So when the party starts you might as well go on and holster that .44, and put that corn liquor away. Beer's OK as long as it's in a koozie. If'n you fall down your just gonna have to cart your own self to the emergency room. And them Illegale drugs? Forget about it. Cough medicine and Listerene are fine, those are legale.

As my wife and I wander the hills and valleys and beaches and swamps in search of captivating scenes in nature we are awed by the sheer beauty that our world has to offer. Each day is a sensory feast as we stand before the magnificance that is dished up by every dawning day. But everywhere we go we are reminded of the presence of the dominant species that dwells here. In almost every case we are forced to overlook the ignorance of humanity, the total disregard for the sacred beauty that is our home. Why someone tosses garbage from the car window, littering our roadsides and highways is beyond me. But trashing the wilderness is incomprehensible. The arrogant disregard for our planet, and the long term effects of these callous actions is beyond reason. To me it speaks nothing more than self-loathing and mental incompetence.

Summer breezes. Warm tropical sun. Crystal clear water of the bluest blue. Tropical drinks. Relaxing on a white sand beach. Oh the life that is vacation! Paradise awaits. If only I could get there right now. If only I could escape at this moment. I would be tempted to never return. I am always tempted to never return. In fact I usually threaten to not return; to leave it all behind and become a beach bum, scrounging for a living, peddling, hustling, just so I can remain physically in paradise.

I guess until then I'll have to cherish the memories and the photographs and look forward to the next escape.

When my son was a mere twat he would sit in front of Nickelodeon on the tube and with every passing toy commercial would turn bright-eyed and exclaim "WANT DAT!!!" At long last I understand his excitement. Since giving my beautiful wife an I-Phone for her birthday this year, and watching her drool and SQUEEEE with delight every time she uses it, I have been mad jealous wanting one for myself. Of course now, after I shelled out the $400 entry fee required to obtain said electronic orgasm, Apple lowers the price to $199. And thus is life.

All that is left to be said is WANT. DAT!!

You know that you have fallen deeply into the clutches of the blogging world when you begin to see images of blogging and bloggers popping up all around you. My beautiful bride of 27 years and I went out this past weekend to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. Upon visiting the men's room (in a very upscale restaurant) directly above the urinal for my amusement while I was otherwise occupied was this picture. Of course I have seen pictures of Marilyn my whole life, but this one is different. This one has been immortalized in the blogging world as the Avatar of Miss Britt.

It was very surreal really. Although we have never met in person, I can't help but feeling like I know way more about her and her family than many other people that I see and interact with every day. And now the relationship has taken on even greater meaning. I mean after all, you don't share a urinal with just anyone. I'm just saying!!

There are always lots of reasons to brag about your kids. And it doesn't stop just because they are no longer in kindergarten or middle school, or on the soccer team. Even when they become adults they still will bring a tear to your eye when they accomplish things.

I had such an experience this week when two of my kids, along with the rest of their team, took the NC state championship rights in 9 ball. They took home a huge trophy, and an $8000 prize to fund a trip to Las Vegas in August for the APA National 9 Ball Championships. I was there for the final round of playing. Every. Nail-Biting. Minute. Woo-Hoo. Makes you proud to see your kids pull it out.

The collective groan that is being heard across the commuting world was shared once again this morning as my dashboard fuel gauge flashed it's mocking chagrin. The horror!! The horror!!

Never before have I paid so close attention to my dwindling gas gauge. It flies like a kamikaze on death spiral, plummeting toward "E" in hopes of eternal glory. I grumble under my breath as I pump a fresh batch of liquid gold into the thankless bastard, begging and taking and begging for more.

Trust me. Everything you have ever heard about this stuff is true. There is definitely many reasons why prohibition was not a good thing. One being the drinking world was left with this stuff.
